Health and Safety Measures

We have been hard at work preparing a safe environment for our swim school families to return to. As we resume operations, the below is a summary of the safety standards that the Jim Herrick Swim School will be implementing with a focus on social distancing, disinfecting and other common-sense preventative measures. These procedures are subject to change based on updated information and recommendations from local, state, and federal authorities. A copy of the Los Angeles County Health Officer Order will be posted at the entrance to our pool deck.

Personal Protective Equipment: Cloth face coverings are required at our facility by all adults and for children over the age of 4. While in the pool, instructors will be wearing plastic face shields while any parent/adult that enters the pool will be required to wear a face covering. Acrylic sneeze guards will be installed on the office desks.

Capacity: We will be limiting the maximum number of private lessons in each pool in order to control customer flow at our facility. Additionally, this limit will provide a greater potential for social distancing for all swim lessons as well as families on the pool deck, in the changing areas and the office. All Parent & Me classes will be limited to one parent and child as no group classes will be offered at this time.

Social Distancing: In order to maintain social distancing of families that are not of the same household, we have modified our pool deck layout. We ask that all deck chairs remain in place and that families respect social distancing while in the changing area, restrooms, pool deck and office. At times, our staff may politely ask guests to move or wait outside the office/changing area if needed. Additionally, we highly encourage families to come and leave in swim gear as much as possible to reduce the number of people in the changing area before and after your lessons. For the meantime, the play structures will remain closed. When feasible, swim instructors will limit the amount of physical contact with students who are completely water safe and focused on swimming stroke development.

Disinfection: Our facility is maintained and thoroughly disinfected daily by a dedicated janitorial staff member. Additionally, our staff will increase the frequency of disinfecting all high-touch areas such as countertops, door/gate handles, bathrooms, and deck chairs throughout the day. Our pools are maintained by a licensed pool technician and operator daily. Our filtration and disinfection systems are operational 24 hours a day and our chlorination/sanitation levels always meet those recommended by the health department which are proven to eliminate pathogens, including coronavirus.

Personal Hygiene: Our facility will always have adequate supplies to support healthy hygiene, including hand soap, hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol, paper towels, tissues, disinfectant wipes, and trash cans.

Pool Equipment: We will be temporarily removing all shared goggles and swim caps from the pool deck. These items will be available for purchase in our office. Each instructor will have an individual station with kick boards and pool toys that will be disinfected in between each lesson.

Temperature Checks: Temperature checks WILL NOT be monitored for swimmers or parents. With a very generous make-up policy, we are relying on families to stay home if they are experiencing any symptoms of illness. All employees will undergo a symptom check when they arrive at the facility.
